Soft and Pliable
On Page One Hundred One, Sayadaw suggests using about ten persons of the same sex for holding an image of each of the four phrases, up to the third jhana each. It is easier to figure out how to take the train to Brooklyn, even with track work and a transfer off the D train, but anyhow..... let me see if I remember the first four jhanas.... is it calm, joy, and beyond joy? Wait I'll look that up... ok it's pleasant sensations or bliss, then joy, then contentment.
Sayadaw then suggests to practice the above with indifferent persons and then someone you hate and one's mind will become 'soft and pliable'.
