On the next page, Sayadaw suggests bringing Lovingkindness to the fourth jhana with a teacher or fellow yogi, making the image clear and bright and positive, about a yard in front of you and say the Metta phrases, over and over, particularly repeating one that works well, and (I liked this), seeing the person as actually free from danger, pain, or being happy, then re-applying the phrases to them up to jhana.
