On Page One Hundred and Two, Sayadaw discusses the development of samasambheda or 'breaking down the barriers' by alternating between lovingkindness for oneself, friends, neutral and hated persons using the fourth (white light kasina, utter peacefulness) jhana until there are no distinctions.Ever go hiking for too long with not enough water? Nature begins on the hike as beautiful and comforting and interesting, and then becomes angry and dangerous. It's all just a viewpoint. Could it be that Metta is 'the way things are?'
